Our MD Will Rash was delighted to speak last month as part of a panel at GOAL 2021 – Global Aquaculture Alliance’s responsible seafood conference.
The focus of the session was on how the pandemic has reshaped the landscapes of seafood sourcing, marketing and consumption.
Will and the panel discussed what the ‘new normal’ for seafood in retail and foodservice might look like as we move forward from the pandemic. He highlighted some of the key trends we’ve seen emerging; first the rise of home cooking and secondly, the increasing importance consumers are placing on choosing healthy proteins to boost immune systems.
Will emphasised the greater awareness we’ve seen among consumers of the importance of provenance: knowing where our food comes from, and the increased demand for products to be sustainably sourced and having as little impact on the environment as possible.
The panel also touched about how the pandemic will change eating out habits, and you can listen to Will here talking about how much people have missed the pleasure of sharing food together, and how the very human desire to eat together that we have all missed over the past eighteen months might influence what we see in the foodservice industry.
